Things are falling into place!

Welcome back!

Hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend.

Here in Pennsylvania we had 100+ degree weekend, and this crazy ass storm that came out of nowhere and just wreaked havoc. That’s how we roll here. The lightning was red, too. Right? No holding back.

Yes, it’s not only been hot out here, but unfortunately it’s been a hot minute since I updated you in whats going on. (C’mon. Give me kudos for that segue!)

Montage? You got it. (It’s gonna catch on)

May was Free Comic Book Day.

As usual, I set up at The Portal in Bethlehem. MJ Massey came and hung out and we messaged John Edingfield every 12 minutes or so to make him feel bad for moving across the United States.

Speaking of across the United States…

I drove all the way across the United States to meet up with John to fulfill our Wurst & Mayhem #3 Kickstarter! I got to spend a few days hanging out with my best bud and recharge the creative batteries.

(Side note: Don’t recommend driving across the country for fun)

Speaking of recharging batteries…

Last weekend I drove to New Jersey to help Dave Lentz table at Garden State Comic Con on Sunday.

I was able to use the opportunity to meet Kevin Eastman! It was awesome. He is so nice. I got to thank him for being my inspiration for becoming an artist and getting into comics, where I met my best friend, and now we create our books together. I handed him a copy of Wurst & Mayhem, which he graciously accepted.

It’s been busy. I don’t mean to fall by the wayside here. I still struggle with working the Monday through Friday gig and having time to consistently sit down and knock this stuff out. My focus has still been on the work because I’m still getting caught up, so deadlines seem like I finish one and the next one is right there!

Which makes me think of something our buddy Kevin Joseph says all the time…

(Look! I didn’t even use the segue joke again! I’m growing) (what do you mean this still counts?!)

So true.

Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Wurst & Mayhem #3 has been fulfilled! Whooooooo!

What a long time coming.

Again, that’s mostly on me for doing the backup story and taking FOREVER to get it done. I hope it’s worth it. I think it’s John and I’s best work yet. We hold no stops, and I hope it shows.

While I was in Nevada, John and I started working on the Wurst & Mayhem #3.5 special issue. By John and I, that means that John worked on all the stuff while I played with all the cool toys in his art studio.

Obviously.

Well, I did do some sketching for the Kickstarter image, which John inked over and I think it came out AWESOME.

It might be obvious, but this was meant as a Frank Frazetta homage. Mostly pulled from the Princess of Mars, with a mix of some Conan work (Wurst clinging to his leg because that would never happen!) for a fun composition.

This is the colors. I had a freakin’ blast coloring it.

I really tried to capture what Frazetta was doing with his painting, while still applying it to the differences in the composition we had. I am extremely satisfied with the result.

The lens-flare and little “magnifying lens” burn was an idea I had as I was coloring it, and it still makes me chuckle.
